To continue to elevate the standards of luxury, service and experiences at the highest levels, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail will embark on an unparalleled, phased enhancement project beginning this week.

Renowned architects, designers, contractors and hospitality teams from Colorado and the U.S. are on board to reimagine and recreate the storied landmark property at Vail’s front door.

“Along with the entire Four Seasons team, we have worked diligently in contemplating a phased plan to create the minimum amount of disruption while maintaining the standards that Four Seasons’ brand epitomizes,” said Gary Barnett, founder and chairman of Extell Development Company and manager of EX Vail, the ownership group for the property. “The property will remain open throughout the renovation.”

Enhancements to Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail will include a refresh and remodel of guest rooms, suites and corridors; a conversion of twelve whole-ownership Private Residences, enhancements to restaurants, bars, the main lobby and reception area as well as meeting rooms, banquet facilities and services.

“The Town of Vail is always pleased to see reinvestment in Vail properties. Four Seasons Resort and Residences represents Vail’s ‘front door’ and is known to guests from all over the world,” said Vail’s Mayor Dave Chapin. “This reinvestment typifies the standard of excellence that has been part of Vail throughout our history. The fact that they have teamed with our local Habitat for Humanity to adhere to Vail’s mission of sustainability, ‘reuse, repurpose and recycle,’ is great.”

Starting immediately, Mortenson of Denver, Colo. along with R.A. Nelson of Vail, Colo. will begin simultaneously remodeling public areas, adding a new demonstration kitchen to Remedy Bar and remodeling 29 guest rooms on floors seven and eight. Concurrently, R.A. Nelson has begun renovating four of the 12 Residences on the west wing.

“The plan is to have all rooms on the eighth floor completed by early July and those on the seventh floor by Thanksgiving,” said Kurt Krieg, vice president of development for Extell Development Company. “We will complete Remedy’s new open-showcase kitchen in time for the festive Fourth of July holiday and will have Flame renovated before the winter holidays. The ballroom and convention space, along with the check-in lobby and retail corridor, will be done in the fall months prior to ski season.”

Simultaneously, work by R.A. Nelson will see the renovation of eight of the 12 Private Residences this summer. Five of the 12 are sold or are under contract.

This project is bringing together some of the country’s best designers, architects, builders and creative teams all working in concert to enhance Four Seasons while minimizing any impact on residents and guests. The team includes:

“We are thrilled to begin this exciting enhancement project next week. As the resort will remain open during this period, we have developed a phased plan to ensure that our guests will continue to receive award-winning Four Seasons service,” said Four Seasons Resort and Residences general manager Meredith Macfarlane. “We are looking forward to unveiling our re-imagined, premier, luxury mountain resort as each of the enhancements are completed.”
