Eagle County Schools announces COVID-19 vaccines for students 16 or older

Eagle County Schools on Thursday sent out the following letter to families, students and staff, announcing the availability of COVID-19 vaccine for students who are 16 or older:

Dear families, students, and staff of Eagle County Schools,

We’re excited to announce that the Eagle County Department of Public Health and Environment (ECDPHE) has opened vaccinations up to students who are 16 years old or older. Naturally, we recognize that health care decisions for minors are the responsibility of their parents or guardians. We are including students in the 11th and 12th grades in this notice only to raise awareness. Public Health may require a parent or guardian to be present at the time of vaccination, please follow their instructions on such matters.

Also, vaccine supplies are limited and only the Pfizer vaccine is approved for those 16 years of age and older. This may affect the length of time between registration and securing an actual appointment. 

Vaccination is a multi-step process administered entirely by Public Health. 

1. Registration. Interested families should visit this link to register: https://sites.google.com/eaglecounty.us/covid/vaccine-appointments
2. Appointment. Registrants will then be contacted by Public Health to schedule an appointment
3. Vaccination. Directions for the vaccination appointment will be provided when the appointment is made

Again, once registered, some time may pass before you are contacted for an appointment, please be patient. They may contact you by phone, text, or email depending on the information you provide during registration. 

Pop-up or short-notice opportunities may become available depending on the quantities of vaccines received in a given week. Public Health’s goal is to ensure no vaccine goes to waste.

If you are interested, please register as soon as possible and follow the instructions and process provided by Public Health to book an appointment and complete the process. Public Health has been very efficient in vaccinating large segments of the community.

This is an exciting development for our eligible students, their families, their friends, and our staff who interact with them on a regular basis. Currently, vaccines are not approved for children under 16 years old.

Estimadas familias, estudiantes y personal de las Escuelas del Condado Eagle:

Nos complace anunciar que el Departamento de Salud Pública y Medio Ambiente del Condado Eagle (ECDPHE) ha incluido a estudiantes de 16 años de edad en adelante para recibir la vacuna. Desde luego, reconocemos que las decisiones sobre el cuidado médico de los menores de edad son responsabilidad de sus padres o tutores. Estamos incluyendo al estudiantado del 11° y 12° grado en este aviso sólo para crear más consciencia del asunto. Salud Pública puede pedirles que algún padre o tutor esté presente en el momento de la vacunación, favor de seguir sus instrucciones al respecto.

Se les reitera que una vez que se registren, puede pasar algún tiempo antes de que les hablen para una cita, por favor tengan paciencia. Es posible que se comuniquen con ustedes por teléfono, mensaje de texto o correo electrónico, dependiendo de la información que brinden durante el registro.

Existe la posibilidad de que se abran oportunidades de vacunación sin previo aviso o con poca antelación, esto depende de la cantidad de vacunas que se reciban en la semana. La meta de Salud Pública es garantizar que ninguna vacuna se desperdicie.

Si les interesa, regístrense lo antes posible y sigan las instrucciones y el proceso que Salud Pública tiene para reservar citas. Salud Pública ha sido muy eficiente en la vacunación de gran parte de la comunidad.

Estas son noticias muy emocionantes para nuestros y nuestras estudiantes elegibles, sus familias, amistades y para nuestro personal que interactúa con ellos regularmente. En este momento, las vacunas no están aprobadas para niños menores de 16 años de edad.
