The Birds of Prey World Cup ski races at Beaver Creek were bookended by snowstorms over the weekend, and now it’s time to look forward to another big storm this coming weekend for the annual, free Vail Snow Days concerts officially kicking off the 2019-20 ski season.

Vail received 7 inches over 48 hours as of Monday morning, with light snow continuing, after a blast of fresh snow to begin the weekend.

The Birds of Prey Talons Crew was challenged by all the weather but still pulled off yet another highly successful weekend of races, with Oregon’s Tommy Ford capping off the celebration Sunday with a dominant giant slalom win.

Beaver Creek saw 4 inches of new snow Sunday into Monday, with light snow continuing. Vail now has nearly 1,000 acres of skiable terrain open, and Beaver Creek is offering up more than 500 skiable acres. Forecasters say the middle of the week will be dry before another weekend storm.

“Enjoy the soft (and in some places deep) snow on Monday morning thanks to 4-15 inches that accumulated on Sunday and Sunday night,” Opensnow.com meteorologist Joel Gratz wrote Monday morning. “For the rest of Monday, snow showers will stick around the northern mountains. Then Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be dry.

“After that, look for snow on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with likely more than a foot for most or all mountains and a good chance that Saturday and Sunday will be fun powder days,” Gratz added.

Saturday features headliners The Head and the Heart after Modest Mouse on Friday. The concerts are free and open to the public, but VIP packages are for sale at vailsnowdays.com.
