VPAC_logo_2c_WEB_rgbThe Vilar Performing Arts Center (VPAC) invites adventurous music enthusiasts to discover seven acts as part of the newly announced Underground Sound series this fall (Sep. – Nov).  Series passes (7 shows, 7 drinks) are only $100 and go on sale Monday, August 17 at the VPAC Box Office (970.845.8497/www.vilarpac.org). Single tickets will go on sale Monday, September 7.The VPAC is located under the ice rink in Beaver Creek Village (68 Avondale Lane, Beaver Creek, Colorado). All Underground Sound performances begin at 7:30 PM.

The series was originally created for those living locally year round who were looking for live entertainment opportunities in the shoulder season.  Seeing this need the VPAC team created the series as a way to give back to the community and provide a way to bring incredible but perhaps less well known artists into the intimate, local setting.

VPAC Executive Director, Kris Sabel hopes to see the same interest and awareness once again this year as passes go on sale.  “We hope to see our locals come out and once again support our local performing arts center, while having a fantastic time,” Sabel said.

New this year, the concerts will take place on Monday’s, Sunday’s and Tuesday’s from Sept. 28 – Nov. 8.  Additionally, the diverse music line-up offers something for everyone’s taste and allows the audience to truly discover new sounds they may not have experienced otherwise or elsewhere.  Charlotte Muir, VPAC Events Manager, is especially excited when looking at the line-up this year stating, “each performance brings a bit of the world to our intimate, community stage.  From the Japanese style drum band, Nagata Shachu, to the Acapella covers tunes of Face Vocal Band the series will stay fresh and engaging for each show.”

Underground Sound opens with a concert by a band deemed “the hillbilly Pink Floyd;” The Slambovian Circus of Dreams are coming to spread their contagious brand of quirky Americana promoting their latest release of A Box of Everything (Monday, September 28). Up next is the singer/songwriter whose spirit resonated with millions night after night when she took the American Idol stage claiming runner up in 2010. Crystal Bowersox’s rich blend of blues, country, folk and rock makes her one of the most dynamic young voices in music (Sunday, October 4).

VPAC then welcomes Todo Mundo (Monday, October 12). Voted “Best World Music” band at the 2014 San Diego Music Awards, they mix the musical flavors of Spanish Rumba, Reggae, Brazilian, Balkan and Middle Eastern styles into an irresistible groove that has been moving dance floors and connecting with audiences across the world since 2009.  Singing, dancing and playing a trombone with a foot are just some of the antics that the Mnozil Brass group demonstrates at its shows. Known worldwide for their extraordinarily popular YouTube videos, the group’s blend of music and comedy continues to entertain audiences from the farthest reaches of the European continent to Russia, Israel, China, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, Canada, and the United States.

Then VPAC welcomes Japanese drummers Nagata Shachu (Sunday, October 25).Combining thunderous, primal drumbeats with subtle, intricate rhythms, the ensemble is able to produce a wide spectrum of sound. Featuring a vast array of Japanese taiko (including the massive O-Daiko), gongs, bells, wooden clappers, shakers and bamboo flutes, Nagata Shachu will take you on a musical journey beyond all borders. Following is the Texas-based duo Penny and Sparrow (Monday, November 2).  Former roommates Andy Baxter and Kyle Jahnke now tour the world inspired by alt country, a love of musicals, and a vast array of books including The Fault In Our Stars. Their most recent record, Struggle Pretty, landed them on the Top 50 Billboard charts.

Finally, VPAC closes the 2015 Underground Sound series with the high-octane all-vocal rock band from Boulder, Colorado, Face Vocal Band (Sunday, November 8).Using only five voices and a beat boxer, the band competed on the hit NBC series The Sing-Off, as well as America’s Got Talent, and in 2013 were named “Best Local Band” by Denver A-List Awards.
