Vail’s online housing survey runs through Friday; phone survey starts June 3

The Vail Local Housing Authority and Vail Town Council have initiated an online survey to gather community opinions on how to address Vail’s resident housing shortage.

Residents within the Vail community are encouraged to take part in the survey which is available by clicking here. Responses take about 10 minutes to complete and will be collected through May 31.

The public opinion research will continue June 3-6 when approximately100 residents will be invited to participate in the same survey via telephone. You may only take the survey once, however.

Working with public opinion consultants from Magellan Strategies and Summit Information Services, the town-funded survey asks respondents to voice their general opinions regarding:

• the housing challenges in Vail
• familiarity with the Vail Local Housing Authority and its activities
• level of support or opposition regarding a potential property tax increase or sales tax increase to help address future housing needs in the community

Results from the survey  will be presented to the community during the June 18 Vail Town Council meeting and will be used, in part, to determine the level of interest in pursuing a ballot question for the November election as well as community sentiment on other housing related topics.

Housing remains the #1 most critical issue for Vail residents, according to the town’s 2018 community survey.

In 2017, the Vail Town Council adopted a housing goal of acquiring 1,000 new deed-restrictions by the year 2027. One of the strategic actions is a long-term funding source. To view the complete 2027 Plan, visit vailgov.com/housing.
