Later Easter brings later closing date for Vail in 2017

This time next ski season we’ll likely still be skiing at Vail.

Following a very powder-packed closing weekend that saw mid-winter conditions on closing day, Sunday, April 17, the weather has continued to be unsettled this week, providing fresh snow for the handful of ski areas still open, including Vail Resorts’ Breckenridge ski area in Summit County.

vail like nothing on earth logoVail’s closing this year was extended by a week after a blast of winter weather starting in mid-March and community concerns were raised that Vail was shutting down too early. On Thursday, the ski company announced its operational dates for next ski season, and Vail will stay open (conditions permitting) until Sunday, April 23.

Crowds typically drop off dramatically after the Easter holiday, which fell unusually early this ski season, on Sunday, March 31. Next year, Easter falls on Sunday, April 16, which will be closing day at Beaver Creek. Here’s the press release from Vail Resorts, including Epic Pass info:

Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek Resort announced operating dates for the resorts’ 2016-2017 ski and snowboard season. Vail will be open from Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, through Sunday, April 23, 2017. Beaver Creek will operate from Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, through Sunday, April 16, 2017.

Will Park City, Heavenly, Northstar and/or Kirkwood be open for a late bonus weekend the last weekend of April (April 28-30th 2017)?
