Entertainment will include Vail’s 4th of July parade, with the 2019 theme ‘A Tribute to the 10th Mountain Division’, a traditional fireworks display from Golden Peak (conditions permitting) at dusk, live musical entertainment throughout the weekend featuring family music, jazz, and the annual Patriotic Concert from Bravo! Vail with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. The 2019 parade route will wind its way through the villages, and will be presented by announcers at the GMC stage in Solaris Plaza, as well as an announcer stage, presented by Alpine Bank, near Gorsuch in Vail Village and a third announcer at the entrance to Lionshead Village.

2019 Honorary Parade Marshals: Sandy Treat and Richard Over

The Town of Vail is pleased to announce 10thMountain Division Veterans Sandy Treat and Richard Over as honorary 2019 Vail America Days Parade Marshals. Richard Over states “It is an honor for me to represent the 10th Mountain Division as a Parade Marshal for the Vail 4th of July parade.  Vail is special to me and I greatly appreciate everyone’s efforts to make sure that the story of the 10th is preserved forever.”

Now 96-years-old, Sandy Treat trained at Camp Hale with the 10th Mountain Division before the mountain troopers shipped out to Italy and played a key role in bringing World War II in Europe to an end. As an accomplished collegiate skier for Dartmouth College, Treat instructed fellow 10th Mountain troopers, using his cross country knowledge to teach them how to ski through trees with their 90-pound backpacks.  Each Friday at 3 p.m. at the Colorado Snowsports Museum in Vail, Treat recounts his time and training at Camp Hale, along with stories of the 10th as they advanced through Italy against heavy resistance from German troops.

Like Treat, Richard Over served his country proudly during World War II with the 10th Mountain Division, seeing action in the Aleutian Islands of Kiska and Attu.  For almost 70 years, Over has shared the heroic story of the 10th Mountain Division with people of all ages.  At the age of 95, Dick continues to volunteer his time for the Colorado Snowsports Museum. The Museum will host a public meet and greet with Richard Over following the parade from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on July 4 at the Museum.
