Town of Vail early voting starts Oct. 24

Early voting for the Town of Vail regular municipal election begins Thursday, Oct. 24. Voters may cast ballots in person during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov. 1 in the Vail Municipal Building, 75 S. Frontage Rd.

Voters must remember to bring a current and valid Colorado identification to the polling place, such as a Colorado driver’s license, U.S. passport, utility bill with name and address of elector, or Colorado state issued identification card.

town of vail logoMail-in/early voting ballot request forms are available for download from the town’s web site at www.vailgov.com or for pick up from the front desk of the Vail Municipal Building with requests due to the Town Clerk’s office by Oct. 25 for out of state delivery. The ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. Nov. 5.

The Nov. 5 election is an at-the-polls format with all voting taking place at the Town of Vail Municipal Building from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. However, voters who receive mail-in ballots for this election must return the completed ballot to participate in the election. Anyone receiving a mail-in ballot becomes ineligible to vote at the polls.

Eligible voters include those who are U.S. citizens, are 18 years of age or older and have established residency within the Town of Vail 22 days preceding the election.

Voter registration is available between now and Oct. 28 through the State of Colorado online voter registration system. To register, go to https://www.sos.state.co.us/Voter/secuVerifyExist.do. Voters will also be able to register in person at the Eagle County Clerk & Recorder’s offices including the day of the election. To verify if you are currently registered to vote, visit https://www.sos.state.co.us/Voter/secuVoterSearch.do.

This year’s election will seat four of seven Vail town council members from a field of seven candidates. Town of Vail elections are non-partisan. In accordance with the town’s charter, voters may select up to four candidates. The three candidates receiving the highest number of votes will serve four-year terms, while the fourth highest vote-getter will serve a two-year term.

There are 4,260 voters eligible to participate in the Vail election as of Oct. 15, including 3,343 active voters and 917 inactive voters.  During the last regular municipal election in 2011, there were 934 votes cast in the Vail election. Of those, 711 used the early/mail in ballot.

In addition to the Town of Vail regular municipal election, Eagle County will mail a separate ballot for any Eagle County, state or special district elections.
