Ski & Snowboard Club Vail (SSCV) today announced the hiring of Kirk Dwyer, headmaster at prestigious Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont, as its new executive director to replace outgoing Aldo Radamus, who will serve one more season at the helm.

Here’s the announcement from SSCV Chairman of the Board Glenn Davis:

SSCV logoI am very excited to announce that Ski & Snowboard Club Vail (SSCV) has hired its next Executive Director, Kirk Dwyer.  Kirk will assume this role in June 2016, after serving out his 16th year as Headmaster of Burke Mountain Academy in East Burke, Vermont.  Aldo Radamus will continue to serve as SSCV Executive Director throughout the upcoming season.

This announcement comes on the heels of an extensive search conducted by the SSCV Search Committee which produced 30 candidates for the Executive Director position.  After extensively reviewing these candidates, this search culminated in a four day visit by Kirk and his wife to the Vail Valley, where he met with 25 people, including SSCV Search Committee members, Trustees, Management Team members, parent representatives from the various SSCV snow sport disciplines, and a representative from each of SSCV’s key partners, including Vail Resorts, Eagle County Schools and Vail Mountain School.  After gathering feedback from those involved in the process, the SSCV Search Committee and Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the hiring of Kirk Dwyer as SSCV’s next Executive Director.

Kirk has been the Headmaster of Burke Mountain Academy (BMA) for 15 years.   During that time he led BMA to become one of the premier snow sport academies in the country.  In addition to ensuring that the academic and snow sport offerings ran smoothly at BMA, Kirk also coached athletes throughout his tenure, helping many of them attain the highest level of success in the sport.  Notably, Kirk was Mikaela Shiffrin’s primary coach during her time at BMA.

Prior to arriving at BMA, Kirk served in several capacities at Green Mountain Valley School over his 25 years there as Assistant Headmaster, Head Women’s Coach, Head Men’s Coach, and Head Alpine Coach as well as an English, humanities, and economics teacher.

Kirk was recognized as the USSA Domestic Coach of the Year in 1989 and also holds an International coaches’ certification.  Kirk was also involved in the broader snow sport community as past chairman of the USSA Eastern Development Committee, National Development Committee, and Eastern Alpine Competition Committee. His is currently a member of the VARA Board and the Eastern ACC Executive Committee.

Kirk and his wife, Robin, have a 17-year-old son, Chase, who will be a senior at BMA.

The SSCV Board of Trustees is assembling a cross-functional Transition Team comprised of SSCV Trustees, staff representatives, Aldo and Kirk, who will collaborate over the coming months to ensure a smooth and seamless transition of organizational leadership.  Although we will not see Kirk on a full-time basis until June 2016 when he joins the organization as Executive Director, please know that Kirk will be an active part of the Transition Team.

On behalf of the SSCV Board of Trustees we are thrilled to have a person of Kirk’s experience and stature step in as the next leader of SSCV.  Please join me in welcoming Kirk and his family to the SSCV community.

Sincerely,

Glenn Davis
Chairman of the Board of Trustees
Ski & Snowboard Club Vail
