Reducing waste entering the Eagle County landfill and increasing recycling efforts are simple steps we can all take to reduce our carbon footprint and support the county wide Climate Action Plan. The Town of Vail is rolling out the 2019 Small Bin Exchange Program to help you do just that.

Through a mini-grant from Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment the Town of Vail received 20 wildlife resistant, 32-gallon trash bins that Town of Vail residents are eligible for to reduce the amount of trash produced.

Downsizing your trash bin in Vail not only helps downsize the amount of waste entering the landfill, but also reduces what you pay for your trash service. Through this program, the Town of Vail estimates an additional one ton of waste will be diverted from the Eagle County landfill.

The Town of Vail will provide participants with a recycling sticker they can use to repurpose their old trash bin into a larger recycling container. Otherwise, participants will exchange their old, large trash bin when they receive their new, small trash bin.

To participate in the Small Bin Exchange Program visit Lovevail.org and fill out and submit the short application to sustainability@vailgov.com or drop it off at the Community Development Office at 75 S. Frontage Road.

After applications are received, you will be contacted by the Town of Vail to schedule your bin pick up. Bins will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis based on receipt of application.

For details about this program, contact Beth Markham, Environmental Sustainability Coordinator at 970-479-2233 or bmarkham@vailgov.com.
