Kaiser Permanente on Tuesday announced the managed care giant will open new medical offices in Edwards. The facility is part of a wave of new healthcare facilities in the Vail Valley that includes and an expansion of the nonprofit Vail Valley Medical Center in Vail and the addition of Centura Health’s new 24/7 emergency center in Avon.

Kaiser Permanente Colorado has chosen the community of Edwards for the location of its new medical offices in Eagle County. Set to open on Jan. 4, 2016, the new Kaiser Permanente Edwards medical offices will be conveniently located at 56 Edwards Village Boulevard, on the I-70 corridor just west of Vail and Beaver Creek ski resorts.

This is Kaiser Permanente’s second facility planned for the organization’s expansion into Colorado’s mountain communities. Kaiser Permanente is also planning for a new medical office building in Summit County at the Basecamp retail center in Frisco.

“We are very excited to bring new options for high quality and affordable health care and coverage to the Colorado mountain communities where there is clearly a need. We selected Edwards for its convenient location and vibrant community where so many Coloradans live, work and play,” said Brent Bowman, executive director of Kaiser Permanente Colorado’s mountain service area. “We believe our new members are going to love both of our new facilities in Edwards and Frisco.”

The 6,000-square-foot facility in Edwards will offer a variety of health care services under one roof, including primary care, laboratory and routine medical imaging. Interior construction is set to begin mid-September including the installation of primary care exam rooms, computer systems, and various other medical equipment. Employees will begin moving into the building in late 2015 to prepare for an early 2016 opening.

While specific staffing plans are still in the works, the new Edwards medical offices will employ a variety of health care professionals, including physicians, nurses, technicians and administrative staff. Open positions will be posted on kp.org/careers.

Kaiser Permanente members in the mountain communities will have choice and options for receiving high quality and affordable health care services. Members will be able to visit any Kaiser Permanente medical office in Colorado, including the Edwards and Frisco locations. In addition, the health plan is actively working to build a network of local primary care and specialty care physicians and hospitals.

Kaiser Permanente members can connect with their physicians and care teams in their medical offices using convenient, secure email through kp.org online or mobile app. In addition, members in the mountain communities will be able to schedule “video visits” with a provider from home through a secure web based program. This program launched this summer along the Front Range.

Pending approval by the Colorado Division of Insurance, Kaiser Permanente will initially offer commercial coverage plans to employers and individual and family plans and Medicaid in Summit and Eagle counties. Additional plans and options will be added in 2017 and beyond.

Kaiser Permanente currently serves more than 640,000 members along the Front Range, as far north as Fort Collins and Greeley and as far south as Colorado Springs and Pueblo.

As the state’s largest nonprofit health plan, Kaiser Permanente focuses on giving back to the communities it serves. The health plan invests earnings into community benefit programs through grant-making and through medical financial assistance—providing free or reduced cost services to those who qualify. In addition, Kaiser Permanente proudly supports a number of mountain community organizations, including the Vail Valley Partnership, the Vail Valley Foundation, Summit Foundation, Education Foundation of Eagle County and Summit County Care Clinic. In addition, Kaiser Permanente has participated in a variety of local events, including the International Snow Sculpture Championships in Breckenridge and the Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail and Beaver Creek.
