Groovetrotters, Matisyahu complete free concert line-up for 2015 Worlds

With the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships only days away, organizers today announced the final two bands headlining free concerts throughout the two-week festivities – the Groovetrotters and Matisyahu.

2015 World Championships logoThe Groovetrotters take center stage at Vail’s Championships Plaza, located at Solaris, on Wednesday, Feb. 11. The Southern California funk band started in the early 2000s as a family fun weekend project. The band has expanded its repertoire over the years to feature more than 60 original songs in genres ranging from jazz to reggae, blues, rock and fusion.

Matisyahu returns to Vail on Friday, Feb. 13. The Grammy-nominated reggae artist first made a name for himself with his album Live at Stubbs and Youth quickly followed. Both albums subsequently went Gold and Youth was nominated for a Grammy Award. The album “Light” followed and featured the hit single and 2010 Winter Olympics theme-song “One Day”. His fourth studio album, Spark Seeker, also debuted at No. 1 on the reggae chart, and features fan favorites “Sunshine” and “Live Like A Warrior”.  With of his most recent studio release, “Akeda”, Matisyahu is sharing with fans his most intimate and personal music to date—taking them on his own personal and spiritual journey.

“We’re excited to round out our entertainment calendar with such great talent,” said Ceil Folz, president of the Vail Valley Foundation and 2015 World Championships Organizing Committee. “Our team has worked hard to put together a stellar lineup of music throughout the World Championships and we hope that fans will come out to enjoy the entertainment each night.”

The free concerts, scheduled in conjunction with the nightly Medals Presentation at Vail’s Championships Plaza, located at Solaris, will be free to the public with the live show kicking off each evening at 6:30 p.m. It is recommended that guests arrive early to ensure a prime viewing spot. Guests should also plan for security bag checks – details for items permitted can be found online at vailbeavercreek2015.com.

Ten other World Championships free concert headliners accompany today’s announcement, and include Michael Franti & Spearhead on Feb. 3, Andreas Gabalier on Feb. 4, Mix Master Mike on Feb. 5, American Authors on Feb. 6, O.A.R. on Feb. 7, Craig Wayne Boyd on Feb. 8, Barenaked Ladies on Feb. 9, KC and the Sunshine Band on Feb. 10, Phillip Phillips on Feb. 12 and CeeLo Green on Feb. 14. The 2015 Organizing Committee will host free concerts nearly every night during the two weeks of the Championships.

Prior to the nightly festivities, Sierra Nevada Brewery will operate their Winter Beer Camp, opening at 4 p.m. daily at the International Bridge in Vail.
