The Climate Action Collaborative is presenting “Getting to Zero: From Radical to Rational” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at Battle Mountain High School in Edwards. The event will focus on drawing down carbon levels in Eagle County. The evening is free, but space is limited and RSVPs are required at https://bit.ly/2QErBbz.

Featured speaker Dr. Robert Davies, Utah State University professor, will provide an explanation of climate change science and why it is essential to understand the gravity and scale of the challenges facing the region, the nation and the world.

A panel of local leaders will follow Dr. Davies’ presentation to discuss current local action at an individual, business and government level, as well as next steps to implement large-scale climate action policies and programs within and for the community.

A reception with refreshments will take place afterward, where attendees can engage one-on-one with leaders and learn how to accelerate their own involvement in local climate work.

Dr. Davies is a physicist and Associate Professor of Professional Practice at Utah State University. His work on global environmental change and sustainable human systems has been recognized for more than a decade in critical science communications. Dr. Davies has delivered hundreds of public lectures to civic organizations, policymakers, municipal boards and schools on the topics of climate change, human sustainability, and science communication.

The Climate Action Collaborative is a group of local governments, businesses, schools, special districts and nonprofits tasked to implement the recommendations of the Climate Action Plan for the Eagle County Community. The plan currently recommends countywide carbon pollution reduction targets of 25% by 2025 and 80% by 2050, from the Eagle County 2014 baseline inventory.
