CDOT, Gypsum mourns loss of highway maintenance worker, first responder Eric Hill

Gypsum native and longtime first responder Eric Hill died recently in an accident during a Colorado Department of Transportation maintenance operation near Gypsum. Here’s the press release from CDOT:

CDOT mourns loss of Northwest Region 3 maintenance team member, Eric Hill of Gypsum

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announces with great sadness the loss of maintenance team member, Eric Hill

Mr. Hill served as a Transportation Maintenance employee in Region 3, section 2 Mary Area, patrol 18 in Gypsum. He was struck during a maintenance operation near Gypsum by a CDOT vehicle. The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and CDOT are conducting an investigation and further details will be provided in the coming days.

“We are devastated by the loss of one of our own. Eric Hill was dedicated to keeping his community safe, both as part of the CDOT team and during his long career Gypsum fire protection district,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “All of CDOT joins together in supporting his family, friends and neighbors, and colleagues during this tragic time.”

Mr. Hill was with Gypsum Fire Protection District for 19 years as a volunteer and paid Lieutenant and EMT-B. He also served as a Lieutenant with Greater Eagle Fire Protection District. A lifelong native of Gypsum, Mr. Hill graduated in 1986 from Eagle Valley High School. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. He is survived by his wife, Cissy, two grown children, Kasie Reynolds-Vasquez and Tyler Dohman, and a nine-year-old son, Brodie Hill, as well as two granddaughters.

“Each CDOT  employee is part of a work family that supports and cares for one another, and we all mourn the loss of Eric Hill,” stated Kyle Lester, Director, Division of Highway Maintenance. “Our strength and hope will be there to support Eric Hill’s family, as we have also lost a family member.”

Currently, there are no details on the plans for a memorial service. Please respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
