Vail Town Manager Stan Zemler's Boulder area home was among those destroyed by the ongoing Fourmile Canyon Fire, town officials have confirmed to Real Vail.

Zemler, the former president and chief executive officer of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, was hired by the town of Vail in 2003. He and his family split time between the town-owned town manager's residence on Arosa Drive in West Vail and their home in the foothills west of Boulder.

Vail Community Information Officer Suzanne Silverthorn sent the following statement:

"Yes, we've received word that the Zemler family residence in Boulder County is among the residences lost in the fire. Stan is currently out of the office dealing with these most difficult circumstances and has asked that we respect his privacy as he and his family attempt to cope with the many circumstances surrounding this loss. The Vail Town Council and staff have been in touch with Stan to extend our support and to let him know that our thoughts are with him and his family. "

Zemler sent a statement via Silverthorn later in the day:

"It is greatly appreciated the wonderful response from everyone and the caring support," Zemler said. "This is a difficult time. The impact of this horrible fire is significant for many. Eventually, I will share this experience, because there much for all of us to learn from it. Thanks all for thinking of us."

The loss of Zemler's home further underscores the devastation of the blaze that began Monday morning and swept through rugged terrain driven by high winds Monday and Tuesday. More than 100 structures have been destroyed and thousands of people have been evacuated.

Vail Fire Chief Mark Miller Tuesday told Real Vail
that the Vail area and surrounding Eagle County residents need to be on high alert due to dry late-summer weather and a forecast calling for an equally dry and windy early fall.

According to reporter Troy Hooper of Real Vail sister site Real Aspen, who was in Boulder over the Labor Day weekend, the blaze may have been caused by a vehicle accidently backing into a propane tank.

There have been no confirmed injuries or deaths from the fire, which has consumed more than 7,000 acres.
