Missouri man dies while skiing Berries run at Vail

A 37-year-old Missouri man died while skiing on Berries trail on the front side of Vail Mountain Tuesday, according to the Eagle County Sheriff's Office.

As of 10 a.m. today, the Eagle County Coroner's Office still had not identified the man or released a cause of death. He was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the "ski incident."

Tuesday's death was the third skiing fatality this season at Vail after 62-year-old Dr. Charles Tuft of Vail hit a tree on opening day in November and 13-year-old Taft Conlin of Eagle died in an avalanche on Prima Cornice last month.

On February 7, 2012, at approximately 10:20 A.M. The Eagle County Sheriff's Office received notification, that a 37-year-old male from Missouri, was transported to the Vail Valley Medical Center after a ski incident on Berries, an advanced trail on Vail Mountain.

Vail Ski patrol provided advanced life support and transported the patient to an awaiting ambulance. He was then transported to the Vail Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The skier was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, which is under investigation.

The Eagle County Sheriff's Office, Vail Mountain, Vail Ski Patrol and Vail Resorts extend their deepest sympathy and support to the family and friends of the skier.
