July 13, 2008 — Vail’s Tivoli Lodge, a classic ’60s icon torn down and totally modernized in 2006, will reportedly be featured on a travel segment on NBC’s Today Show Monday morning, July 14.
The TV segment will feature an editor of Travel + Leisure Magazine, which wrote about the venerable Vail lodge at the beginning of last ski season, holding it up as an example of Vail’s redevelopment renaissance.
The 62-room Tivoli, between Vail Village and Golden Peak on the east end of town, is owned by Vail’s pioneering Lazier family. They took the best of old-world lodging charm, including top-line guest service, and combined it with all the luxe amenities of a modern American boutique hotel.
The Laziers first moved to Vail in the very early days of the resort’s existence in the 1960s. Bob and Diane Lazier, whose eldest son Buddy is a racecar driver who won the Indy 500 in the 1990s, learned the development and hospitality trade on the fly while working a variety of jobs in the early days of Vail’s struggle to establish itself as a major destination resort.
The Laziers still live in the penthouse of the Tivoli Lodge and treat the property as the ultimate family endeavor. Go to www.tivolilodge.com for more information.
