Low snow a good test for World Cup and 2013 bid
By Chris Anthony

November 30, 2007 —  It’s been an exciting last few weeks since my last blog. And while it still hasn’t really snowed as much as I/we need it to snow where I/we need it to snow, I’m confident it will come. Mother Nature has a way of balancing things out.

My hope is that this is a test to show how Vail and Beaver Creek can pull off a world-class event against the odds and lack of snow. I’m referring to the ongoing World Cup in Beaver Creek - one of the most prestigious sites on the circuit, with the Birds of Prey downhill course the cornerstone of the weeklong event.

If organizers can pull this off with the lack of early season snow, then it will show that the Vail Valley is more than worthy of hosting another World Championships, which they are in the process of bidding for (2013 to be precise). The action started Thursday, Nov. 29, in Beaver Creek and runs through Sunday, Dec. 2.

Mother Nature always eventually brings the goods
Chris enjoys his usual side bennies during the filming of the most recent Warren Miller flick, "PLAYGROUND".

I’m actually just coming off of the fall Warren Miller Film Tour. Now in its 58th year, Warren Miller Entertainment once again pulled off an amazing film. “PLAYGROUND” premiered in several cities starting in mid-October and is still going strong. I hosted 45 shows over the past month and half, and the audiences, which are like family to me, showed they are more than energetic about the upcoming season.

Go to www.warrenmiller.com for more info on “PLAYGROUND”, and if you want to see more photos from the tour, check out my Myspace page at myspace.com/chrisskifilm.

I have also been cruising around speaking at a variety of schools on behalf of the Fifth Grade Passport Program. If you have a fifth-grader in the state of Colorado, he or she is eligible to SKI FOR FREE when they sign up for the Fifth Grade Passport Program. Check out Colorado Ski Country USA’s website (www.coloradoski.com) for more information on this program.

Vail Snow Daze, set for Dec. 3-9, celebrates the start of the winter season at Vail with incredible snow, terrain openings and the biggest early season party in North America, featuring a week-long calendar packed with daytime and nighttime events and activities.

The week is highlighted by three nights of entertainment including headliner bands Ziggy Marley on Thursday, Dec. 6, Social Distortion on Friday, Dec. 7 and Ludacris & The Roots, Saturday, Dec. 8. Be sure not to miss the Dummy Gelunde World Championships, in which your favorite “dummy” crashes and burns off the big-air jump at Golden Peak.

After dark, the fun continues with nightly entertainment all around town; bar parties, a fashion show, and Dine Around Vail (discounts at Vail's top restaurants) and more. Visit www.vailsnowdaze.com for more info and tickets.

Killin' it on the ski-promotion party scene

By Chris Anthony

October 30, 2007 —  Well, I’m full onto the ski-promotion season. In the last three weeks I’ve been in Tahoe, Colorado, Maui, New York City, Denver, Boulder, Vail, Winter Park and Aspen. Nuts, indeed.

It snowed here in Colorado but now we are back into the Indian summer.

On Oct. 20 I hosted the 80’s ski party in Denver at the White House Lounge. This was off the hook, with people really getting into it by dressing up. Outdoor Divas donated a pair skis to the best dressed 80’s female skier (see images) and Chaos, Smartwool, Go Fast, Fly Low, Smith, Pentax, Coors, Grand Marnier and Rocky Mountain Sunscreen provided a ton of other prizes for this party. All the proceeds of entry went to the E.P.I.C Foundation. Got to www.80skiparty.com

On Oct. 23 Kevin and Jessica Quinn from Points North Heli Skiing joined me in Edwards, Colo., for a party at E-Town. Points North in Cordova, Alaska, is where I do my heli camps. The gathering allowed for a slide show and for us to be on hand to answers questions about heli skiing in Alaska and, of course, my camps. Got to www.chrisanthony.com.

There was nothing shady about these 80's ladies at the White House Lounge in Denver.

Prior to these two events I was in the Big Apple doing a media tour on behalf of the Beaver Creek Park Hyatt Resort & Spa. We are sharing images of this incredible resort as well as encouraging magazines to write about the Park Hyatt Technique Weeks. If you are interested in this ski program, call the Beaver Creek Park Hyatt Resort & Spa at (970) 949-1234.

The new Warren Miller movie is now off and running! The name of this year’s film is “PLAYGROUND”. We did a small opening in Winter Park and will gradually grow to bigger venues through December. I checked out the film for the first time in Winter Park. IT ROCKS! Go to www.warrenmiller.com for times and dates. The Go Fast Rocket Man is going to show up at some events, and I will be there hosting as well. I’m also giving away materials from some of my sponsors like Chaos and Smartwool.

Bode Miller has officially signed on with Go Fast Sports! He is also featured in PLAYGROUND.

A few things to get you psyched for ski season

By Chris Anthony

October 16, 2007 —  There are all kinds of events going on this time of year to get people psyched for ski season. Here are just a few:

The annual Vail Ski Swap to benefit Ski Club Vail is coming up at Dobson Ice Arena Oct. 26!

The Warren Miller movie “PLAYGROUND” starts is national tour the night before (Oct. 25) in the Vail Valley. I’m hosting an event in Edwards, Colo., at E-Town on Oct. 23 leading up to the PLAYGROUND premier. If you’re in the neighborhood, come by. Corona and GM are jumping on board.

Olympian Sarah Schleper ties the knot at Beaver Creek.

A-Basin and now Loveland have opened with very limited snow, but they are open! Some natural snow fell over the weekend and more is on the way!

Another huge fundraiser event coming up is the 80’s Ski Party in Denver, which I’m hosting. Check it out: http://www.80skiparty.com

Congrats to Kevin and Jessica, owners and operators of Points North Heli. They tied the knot in Squaw Valley a couple of weeks ago. The entire gang of Tahoe ski fanatics was in attendance. The bridesmaids made up a Who’s Who of women’s big mountain skiing. They looked awesome in all black dresses standing in the rain with snow coming down and rainbow behind them during the entire ceremony.

Also on the wedding front, U.S. Ski Team member and multi-Olympian Sarah Schleper tied the Knot with Federico Gaxiola in Beaver Creek last weekend.

I’m proud to announce CHAOS headwear has now become a part of the ski world. Check them out at www.ChaosHats.com.

The CHAOS Team:

Spokesman - Chris Anthony, Warren Miller Ambassador and professional freeskier

Snowboard: Jeff Cormack, Davis Johnson, Ellen Feldman and Chloe Banning

Freeskiing: Brett Buckles, Suzanne Graham

Until next time, cheers

Taking home some NEPSA hardware at THE MEETING

By Chris Anthony

October 14, 2007 —  Hello ski fanatics! Welcome to my second blog.

The season, or at least the preseason leading up to the actually ski season, is filled with events. This past weekend Aspen hosted the 5th annual “THE MEETING”, a gathering that takes place over three days and puts on a number of events that include the NEPSA AWARDS.

My short video edited by Jon Stevenson and featuring Warren Miller footage took second, while Mark and Paul Stover, edited by Matt Hobbs, took first. Other highlights included a fashion show, film fest and a ton of parties. Teton Gravity Research presented.

Taking home some NEPSA hardware at THE MEETING
NEPSA Award winners, including second-place finisher Chris Anthony, represent on stage at THE MEETING in Aspen.

Kudos on the TGR film. Most of the young jibbers and some of the old guides were in the house. Tanner Hall, Simon Dumont, Peter Olenick, as well as numerous other industry trendsetters represented. Greg Stump made an appearance as well. Next year, make your way to this event; it is growing every year.
